Short Biography
Dr. Georgeta Vaidean received her M.D. degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She earned an M.P.H. degree in Health Promotion and Health Education from the University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. degree in Cardiovascular Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Vaidean is a Mayo clinic-certified health and wellness coach, and gained additional certifications in motivational interviewing and positive psychology. A life-long academic, Dr. Vaidean has been teaching Evidence Based Medicine, Research methods, Clinical Trials, Cardiovascular epidemiology and Lifestyle Medicine to medical students, Master’s and PhD degree students at various institutions. Dr. Vaidean conducted cardiovascular epidemiology research ( Framingham Heart Study, Atherosclerosis and Risk Factors in Communities, Polish Norwegian Study among many others), as well as clinical research of risk factors and lifestyle interventions in Preventive Cardiology (Lenox Hill Northwell, New York City).
Workshop Title: Skills for Critically Reading a Research paper in Lifestyle Medicine
Description of the Workshop (WGA2):
The workshop aims to introduce learners to the principles of critically reading a clinical research paper in Lifestyle Medicine and to build practical skills on how to evaluate a paper’s credibility and how to apply research findings to Lifestyle Medicine practice.
At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
- Define and contrast basic research designs commonly used in Lifestyle Medicine studies
- Use a rapid method to scan and summarize a paper using the PICO format
- Describe major threats to the validity of a study
